90/10 copper nickel gives excellent resistance to corrosion, especially in marine sea water environs. The Thermal Expansion Co-efficient of Copper nickel (@20-300°C/68-572°F) is 9.00 µin/in °F (16.2 µm/m °C). The Chemical Composition of copper nickel is Cu 71.25-76.5, Fe ≤ 0.20, Pb ≤0.050, Mn ≤ 1.0, Ni 23.5-26.5 and Zn ≤ 1.0. Copper Nickel 90/10 contains 90% copper and 10% nickel. It also contains small amounts of iron and manganese in it, to increase its resistance to corrosion. Copper Nickel 90/10 offers superb resistance to brackish water, biofouling in seawater, erosion and stress corrosion. It has superb welding and fabrication properties. As far as hydrogen embrittlement goes, 90/10 copper nickel has a very high resistance to this. Cu-Ni 90/10 is very popular for use in industrial, architectural and marine applications, as it has high ductility and toughness. The Elastic Modulus of Copper nickel is 152 GPa (22000 ksi). The Thermal Conductivity of Copper nickel is 32.9 W/mK (0.0900 BTU in/hr.ft². °F). 90/10 copper nickel has superb antimicrobial properties, which means that it has the capability to kill a huge range of microbes, up to 99.9%, including the likes of Clostridium difficile, E. coli, MRSA and influenza A (H1N1), within a span of just a couple of hours.
